Please note: Submission of this form does not guarantee approval of your request. All requests are subject to a formal assessment and approval process.

An alteration means any change, addition, or installation you want to make to your rental home – even small changes like paving, security lighting or doors, or a non-perimeter structure. A modification is a change made to support safe access, mobility, health, or independence in your home – often due to disability, injury, age, or medical conditions.
NRH will not approve any modifications without the required documentation, including an OT Report. You can apply for temporary or permanent modifications by completing this form. Please do not arrange or start any work until NRH gives written approval.

Understanding the Rules for Alterations - Please read carefully

By submitting this request, you agree:  

  • Not to start work until NRH gives written approval.  

  • All work must meet all legal, council, building code, and NRH property standards.  

  • Licensed and qualified professionals must do the work, if required.  

  • You’re responsible for all costs, maintenance and repairs related to the alteration.  

  • At the end of your tenancy, you will remove the alteration and repair the property to its original condition – or you may be required to cover the costs to return the property to its original condition.  

  • You will provide NRH with any completion certificates or compliance documents requested, and allow NRH employees to inspect before, during or after the alteration.  

  • If installing a new door lock or changing keys, you are required to provide NRH with a copy of the new key.

By submitting this request, you agree:  

  • Not to start any work until NRH gives written approval. 

  • To allow NRH employees to inspect before, during and after the modification.  

  • To ensure that the work is completed by qualified and licensed tradespeople, where required.  

  • That NRH may require additional documentation or approval from government agencies, insurers, or other providers.  

  • To work with NRH to ensure the design is appropriate, safe and suitable for your home and tenancy.  

  • That some modifications may need to be removed or altered at the end of your tenancy, depending on the circumstances. 

Important

NRH may review or revoke approval if we reasonably believe there has been some misuse, unsafe work, or damage that is not in your best interests or compliant with our standards.
